What first attracted me to Christine Navin's photographs was the honesty and rawness of her subjects. I was left intrigued, wishing to have been a fly on the wall for just a few more moments after the photo was snapped. During a stopover in London last week, I stumbled on a magical exhibit at the Barbican Art Gallery showcasing the exquisite work of Dutch fashion duo – Viktor & Rolf. As one might guess, the House of Viktor & Rolf is anything but normal. The retrospective is showcased over two floors of the Barbican gallery using a mixture of regular and life-size dolls decked out in perfect replicas of signature pieces from each of their collections since 1992. All of this is centered around a giant doll house. Cameras were not allowed inside, and the internet is (strangely) void of many good photos of the exhibit – which is probably a good thing because it’s quite the spectacle to observe in person. One of the things I miss most about running the Paper-Doll.com boutique is Dace. Absence makes the heart grow fonder…at least I hope it does. I’ve been away in South Africa doing a course on Community Managed Micro Finance, and slightly overestimated how much access I’d have to a computer and the internet. All the plans of blogging from Africa failed miserably. We had a momentary taste of summer yesterday in Toronto and sandals were out in full force. While I love gladiators, I suspect we'll all be very tired of this trend before the summer is over.
