As the name suggests - Complex Geometries is anything but simple. This Montreal based label consistently produces unique (but wearable) designs that can often be worn in more than one way.

Designer Spotlight: Ndeur
Customizing women’s shoes…Remarkably, Parisian artist Matthieu Missiaen stumbled upon the idea by chance when he first moved to Toronto to brush up on his English skills. Hired to paint the outside of an indie boutique, the owner asked Missiaen to revamp a few pairs of women’s heels on the side. When those few pairs of heels sold in record time, Missiaen knew he was onto something…and Ndeur was born.

Designer Spotlight: Grey Ant
A few weeks ago I got a sneak peek of the Grey Ant Holiday collection, and it is divine! The collection is far less tongue-in-cheek than previous seasons and is packed with vibrant colour. Designer Spotlight: Dace
One of the things I miss most about running the Paper-Doll.com boutique is Dace. Not ordering from their Spring/Summer 2008 collection was sad, made even more difficult by the fact that this is possibly one of their strongest collections to date.

Designer Spotlight: Sunshine and Shadow
Quirky would be a good word to describe Sunshine and Shadow. First of all, the use of extremely young models showcasing clothes that most 15 year olds would not be interested in wearing, nor could afford, confuses me. I can look past that though – because like sunshine breaking through shadows, this quirkiness is a pleasant addition to the fashion world. Sunshine and Shadow is all about opposites and contrasts. The designer, Lily Raskind, uses elegant fabrics for casual shapes. Splashes of intense patterns sit on subtle coloured backgrounds. The clothes are innocently young, but confidently grown up at the same time. And I love this label – in all its quirky glory.

Designer Spotlight: Laura Dawson
I have been a long time admirer of Laura Dawson, but her Spring “Coney Island” collection carved out a special place in my heart reserved only for a select few. The collection is a softer, more feminine take on the “new rave” trend bombarding the market right now. While I love all these crazy splashes of neon and totally obnoxious and spastic geometric prints, they’re just way too over the top for me to feel comfortable in. Laura Dawson's spring collection is toned down (way down), with softer cuts and colours. This is a look that I can get behind. Most of the Laura Dawson Spring collection is made from French organic cotton and low impact dyes, and produced “with love” in New York city. The A Frame Dress, Triangle Jumper and Shift Dress (pictured above) are all on the list of must-haves for this summer.
