Too Close for Comfort? Jeffrey Campbell does minimarket
Posted on Dec 21 2009

My love for Jeffrey Campbell has faded this season after too many close "interpretations" of current IT shoes - from the Ashish Wedges to Acne's Atacomas and Opening Ceremony's Buckle Boot. The latest copy cat - a suede version of minimarket Zipper Boots. I've been lusting after the sold-out minimarket Zipper boots for ages, and I have to admit with a slightly bulkier shape (and a price tag about half the size), I actually prefer the Jeffrey Campbell (Pixie) version. I just don't know how I feel about buying into something that so blatantly resembles another designer's work.

How do you feel about this issue?

the booties are amazing catch! if the suede doesn't bother you - go for them :)))
Jeffrey Campbell has done collaborations with Minimarket in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if MM was not only okay with it, but knew all about it.
Lindsay - Jeffrey Campbell has collaborated with the Swedish Brand minimarket (http://www.minimarket.se/)? Or do you mean the Brooklyn based boutique Mini Mini Market? (http://www.miniminimarket.com ) I think JC has worked with the Brooklyn boutique - but I couldn't see why the designer minimarket would be okay with JC making a cheaper version of their popular design? Especially since they're carrying that style into their SS10 collection?
Ugh, I am with you 100% -- I just can't buy blatant knock-offs in good conscience. One reason we love fashion is for the fresh and original styles from designers! Steve Madden makes me sick for this very reason... I think every pair the brand puts out is a copy.
Although, I totally understand where one is coming from on the whole blatant knock-off issue, I feel that fashion unfortunately tends to repeat itself and designers most likely have been inspired by something that has all ready been done before.

Now, I also feel that the fashion industry is made up the way it is deliberately. It is meant to be a sign of class and for the industry to continue to be competitive and thrive there will be contemporary brands that will benefit from what the designer create which serves a marker (or serve as the "rabbit") of every ones (the mass market margin)desire. Considering the HUGE difference in price point I believe the high end designers are just fine in making sales goals with clients that haven't been effected by the economy or at least breaking even with production cost for the season.

Also, what about the little ppl?? Those that can't afford to pay for designer duds?? What options do we have then?? We too want to be fabulous? I feel to each it's own and it's more of how you put an outfit together rather than how much or WHO you are wearing for ME. But that's only cuz I can't afford designer clothing at the moment. Please do not get me wrong though...if I had the money OF COURSE I would by the best quality of a look I am going for but you can't knock the hustle - and the fashion biz is definitely a hustle! ;-)

in LOVE,
Lady Yvette
My feeling is that your interpretation of the shoe and designer's eye was dead on, but the lack of grammar in the first 9 words made me lose all credibility.
Thanks for pointing that out. How embarrassing. I'm afraid to think of how many other mistakes there are on this site. It is probably time to stop multitasking and focus on one thing at a time :) Thanks again.
I think most of Jeffrey Campbell's shoes are rip offs or real designers.
